Weather in Colombia

One aspect of Colombia that surprises foreigners is the uniformity of its climate throughout the year. This is because the country is located in the equatorial zone, so there is no change in the hours when the sun rises or night falls, and seasons are not experienced as in most countries of the world. Colombia's climate consists of dry seasons (December to January and July to August) and rainy seasons (April to May and October to November).

But this does not mean that the climate in Colombia is the same. In fact, the topographic diversity gives Colombia a great variety of landscapes, biodiversity and thermal floors.

Climates of Colombia

Warm Weather:These are areas where the heat exceeds 24°C, as in the Pacific, where you can go humpback whale watching; San Andrés, a destination with incredible beaches for diving; and the Caribbean coast, where the famous Barranquilla Carnival is held and where the Tayrona National Natural Park is located.

Temperate Weather:In these areas, the temperature ranges from 17°C to 24°C, as in Medellín, where the Feria de las Flores is held, and in Cali, home of the famous Feria de Cali.

Cold Weather:The temperature ranges between 12 °C and 17 °C. This is the case of Bogota, a city that fuses history and modernity and where you can visit the renowned Gold Museum.

Moorlands:In these areas, temperatures range from 6°C to 12°C, as in the Chingaza National Natural Park, home to species such as white-tailed deer, condors and Andean bears.

Glacial Areas:They have temperatures below 6 °C, such as the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, where you can go trekking.

Tropical Rainforests:They are hot and humid, and temperatures exceed 27°C, as is the case in the Amazon, where you can enjoy exuberant nature.

Tropical steppe:It is characterized by high temperatures, minimal rainfall and little vegetation. An example is La Guajira, where you can visit a Rancheria to learn about the Wayuu culture.
